Mentoring programme with focus on disadvantaged groups
Following the success of the Shapers of Tomorrow Mentorship, the Bulgarian Chevening Association is extending with support from the British Embassy Sofia the programme to disadvantaged school students.
The new initiative will use the network of students who have studied in the UK, Chevening alumni and Shapers of Tomorrow mentoring programme network of mentors to encourage the participation of students from marginalised groups in university. The aim is further development of ‘Shapers of Tomorrow’ mentoring programme to extend mentoring and peer support to (potential) students from disadvantaged backgrounds to support them to enter and remain in further and higher education, and extending the networking opportunity to help them transition from study into employment.
The Bulgarian Chevening Association will partner with organisations working with disadvantaged groups in support of their efforts to shape the future of motivated and forward-looking youth.
The programme will be opened for mentees and mentors applications mid-September to mid-October 2021. The matching will be until end of October, when training for mentors and mentees will be organised online. Mentors and mentees will be given access to the Shapers of Tomorrow platform where dedicated materials and interactive training is available.
Two online speed mentoring sessions will be organised – on 02.12.2021 and on 20.01.2021.
Speed mentoring is series of short, focused conversations about specific questions. The conversations involve a one-on-one interaction between a mentee and number of mentors on successive order. This allows mentees to experience more interactions and can then receive a lot of information from a variety of mentors with different experiences.
Networking event is foreseen for February 2022 and Award ceremony and celebration for mentors and mentees in March 2022.
